Hi guys,

Thanks in advance for your help..

What happen is that my internet connection would keep dropping. I have a desktop that is connected via LAN cable with a network switch in the middle. Every once in a while, sometimes 1 hour sometimes 2-3, the internet connection would drop. However, I can still get internet on wireless devices. I resort into having to go into my network connections and running the diagnostic tools, which have it resets the ethernet adapter and internet will work again.

I thought this was a modem issue, so I actually got a new modem, different brand. But it is still doing the same thing. I cannot figure it out because it is random and resetting the modem doesn't work. I did antivirus scans and used malwarebytes but it doesn't solve the problem either. I am lost in what I should be doing now.

Please advise me what to do.

Thanks!

This has many reasons:
-Open cmd and type ipconfig/flushdns Then Press enter
-Make sure the computer to which you have wifi has the correct physical address. check it with the computer to which you have a ethernet connected.
-Turn off firewall.
-Port forward to this port:
UDP Port 16000
-Press Win Key + R to open Run, type msconfig and press enter. Go to services, check Hide all Microsoft services. Now disable any services that updates.
-Stop downloading or browser while playing.

Sounds like it might be the network switch going bad. Switch your cable to a different port on the network switch and see if that solves the issue.
If it does not solve the issue, the ports might be going bad (they can oxidize after a moderate period of time if they are kept in a semi-damp environment).

If you can still get internet on wireless devices and it is not dropping them as you state in the original post, it is definitely that one or all of the ports are going bad.

I thought this is more of my hardware? Because to get the internet connection back all I need to do is to reset the network adapter on my computer.

I switched my cable to another port on the switch.

It is one of those netgear 20 port gigabyte switches if this is relevant.

Resetting the network adapter can fix an intermittent port problem by resetting and 'clearing' the garbled data that was causing the 'limited' condition in the network adapter.
That said, wait a few days.... if the problem is still appearing even after 2 hours in a new port, something has most likely gone bad in the network adapter itself and/or it needs taken apart and cleaned.
Yes, dust and dirt can build up in network adapters and cause problems, even if they appear to be totally sealed so that dust cannot get inside.

Thanks for the advice, it has been 2 hours and still no drop ever since i switched out the port to another one. Hope this will fix all issues.

Do you happen to know why my computer time keeps changing? I switched out the CMOS battery, did all anti-virus and malware checks, and every random 1-2 hours it will change my time to a random time..

Update: It literally dropped the internet after this message was typed

I directly connected to my modem without the switch in between. I am still having this issue. How would I go about this now? I am using the onboard network adapter. I have a mobo z87
