I've been using...

attrib +s +h <folder name>
cacls <folder name> /e /c /d %username%

To make a folder hidden and unsearchable. It works, at first, until a file inside the directory is accessed, then it starts showing up in the windows search (start->search field). It seems like windows adds recently accessed files to some kind of history/cache, even if the file was previously in a hidden 'unsearchable' folder. Is there anyway to disable this behavior?

Thanks

But then I wont be able to modify the contents of the folder?

I was hoping for a solution maybe involving editing the registry. I know there was a way to remove the browsing history (in the explorer address bar) by simply modifying a key in the registry. There must be some way to tell windows not to cache recently opened documents for searching?

Sorry didn't have a chance to get back to this for awhile - I was looking for a solution that did not involve relying on multiple user accounts. I am sure there is some setting in the registry to disable caching of recently opened files when doing a search. That's really what I'm looking for.

Does anyone know how I would go about finding this setting in the registry? It was easy enough to disable the 'search history autocomplete/dropdown' via reg edit.
