Hello I have been going through the process of upgrading my computers and the last step I need for my desktop is a new cpu but I would rather not get a new motherboard unless i apsoloutly have to so can anyone recomend a service that scans your hardware and recomends a cpu upgrade

or if anyone can just recomend an upgrade I would appreciate it

I am currently running amd anthlon 64 LE-1640

the motherboard is OEM_MB IVY8 (Socket AM2) I hope this helps and thank you in advance

Solution
I picked you out a new PSU too, as you should change that every 5 years due to the dielectric wearing out in the capacitors.

These Haswell i3s FLY.

AMD...
For something that old you are going to need to start from scratch. Besides that is an OEM board, so even if it wan't ancient you would most likely still be SoL. On the bright side, even very cheap parts by today's standards will be light years faster than that.

Post a budget and I'll comee up with something. Also post what else you already have.

Ok well thenk you for replying so fast I was afraid that would be the answer I would get I am attempting to upgrade my streaming setup to be able to stream better games to twitch and was going to use this secondary desktop (which has just been collecting dust for about a year now) as the streaming pc to reduce processor load from my gaming pc.

So as far as a budget right now I would say 200-300 USD if I need to I can save up for a bit which sounds like what I will have to do.

but the setup on the desktop i was talking about is as follows

CPU: AMD Anthlon 64 LE-1640
Ram: 4.00GB single channel DDR2 @301MHz (5-5-5-15)
Motherboard: OEM_MB IVY8 (Socket AM2)
Graphics card: 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 610

Well I meant A program like Speccy that scans your hardware and gives you a list of upgrades

AMD Alternative has higher clock speed, and overclocking ability, but overall weaker than the i3:
