I have a core 2 quad with 4gb ddr2 ram and the motherboard supports up to 8gb, max of 2gb per stick. I already have one 2gb stick in there and two 1gb sticks in it. I have an hd6570 1gb gpu coming in the mail to pair with it, a great improvement over the older 8400gs gpu in it.

I'd be gaming while in skype, steam running, maybe origin, and either firefox/chrome with 10-20ish tabs open, maybe more. Although I could just close excess tabs to free up memory. I also just installed Windows 8.1 on it, previously it had XP on it.

I've gamed on this A8 Llano APU quad core laptop before on Diablo 3 and had alot of tabs open and steam/origin and it only has 6gb ram.

Just curious as DDR2 ram is expensive even for slower rated 667mhz which is the max this core 2 quad motherboard can take. I thought about getting a better motherboard to overclock it but eh. Would only be gaming on 1440x900 anyway or 720p

Kind of taken this old Core 2 Quad Q9300 pc on as a project. Before it only had the two 1gb sticks, so I upgraded the ram to 4gb total, got Windows 8.1 on it, and a much improved hd6570 gpu over the previous one. Still needs a bigger HDD, and one day probably put a GTX 750ti in it

If the motherboard took ddr3 ram I'd just plop 8gb out of my main rig into it, I didn't end up needing all 16gb ram at all haha.

Im dodnt really think that 4gb will be enough. Skype and web browsers take away a lot of the memory. I had 4gb of ddr3 memory a couple of months ago and had skype and web browsers open and it lagged on games, but when i dont have them open it doesnt lag that much.
But my personal meaning is that you will need more than 4gb of ram, because you have ddr2 and you are planning to have a lot of applications open at once :)

I have a friend that still uses an old Asus M3n72-D motherboard with an Athlon 3Ghz dual core and 4 Gb of DDR2 and he's gaming just fine. I see no reason to dump any more money into additional DDR2 memory if you already have 4Gb. Just my 2 cents.

4 GB probably isn't enough to be using for modern games, but chances are that rig isn't powerful enough to play Watch Dogs and BF4 and such anyway. Games old enough to run well on that machine likely won't be too demanding of your RAM.

I built a PC for a friend with only 4GB RAM and he games, uses Skype, has Chrome with multiple tabs open and all sorts of stuff going on and he never has a problem. You should be fine! :)

Yea but i dont think that the OP could play BF4, Watch Dogs Cod Ghost...etc basicly the newest games that require min 6gb of Ram :/

Yeah, so he'll be fine with 4GB.

Again, my friend is playing COD Ghosts, Far Cry 3, Crysis 3, etc with 4 GB of DDR2 just fine. To say that you don't "think" it'll be enough is moot at this point, as the fact that it is has been already proven.
