Hi guys,
I've been using PCs as a hobby & professionally for quite some time now, but I haven't actually built my own pc yet and now I've decided it's the time to do it So basically I'm a noob when it comes down to hardware choices I've already picked some parts and thoght it would be awesome if you can take a look and comment. I also have a couple of questions/concerns in particular.
The Build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/georgesg/saved/pHTPxr
What I want from this build:
- Future-proofing - at the beginning it'll be running two 1920x1200 monitors, but I want to be able to switch to 4K at some point. Would be nice to be able to game @ 4K too.
- CPU power - it will be used for programming in various platforms, I want all dev tools (and the OS itself) to be as fast as possible - that's why I'm going with the i7 & SSD.
- Gaming - It'll be nice to be able to run games a few years down the road with decent settings. I want to be able to run games from the past couple of years at max (or close to max) settings (gta 5, assassin's creed 4, FIFA, PES, Starcraft II, etc - I'm not much into shooters)
Some questions:
- I don't think I'll be oveclocking the i7 immediately, I just want to have this option for the future. Do you think I'll need a custom CPU cooler before overclocking?
- It's really hard for me to pick a graphics card - my choices are the Gigabyte from the build, ASUS GTX770-DC202-2GD5 or Palit GTX770 Jetstream 4GB. For future-proofing I think I want 4GB of memory, so running 4k displays & future games won't be a problem.
- I'm stretching my budget a little bit, that's why I'm going with a less expensive PSU. But I'm worried for Gigabyte's Windforce GTX power consumption - will that PSU provide enough power? In the future if I want to use 2-way SLI, will I need more?
Thanks in advance for any comments / suggestions
George
