Hey I finally decided to go with the I5-4670K with the asrock z87 killer and Gigabyte gtx 760 but then i was thinking i can push my self a little bit and get the I7-4770K is it worth it? I only play games bf4, wow... ect or its better if i go with the 770 gtx instead of upgrading the cpu ? Or i should stay with my build and save the money as its not worth spending more money?

Solution

Stick with the i5-4670K. Look at this:

i3s, i5s, and i7s perform nearly the same in Battlefield 4 (just one game out of many). They won't be a bottleneck to even the best video cards.

Spend the extra money and get a GTX 770.

You won't see a lot of difference between those two chips in most games

Are you gonna overclock? If not you can save some money by not getting K-series chips. If you are gonna overclock, you need to consider your cooling

I'd agree, go for the i5 and put the extra cash toward a better card. Then you'll be set for a few years b4 needing to upgrade again.. GPU will show much larger gains than i5 v i7 difference. You could also opt for the haswell refresh i5 as most z87 boards are getting bios updates for compatbility..but you should check the model to make sure first.

If you can, get a Z97 motherboard, and get an i5-4690K. Then you will be able to put in a Broadwell CPU next year.

If you have the money, it is a worthwhile futureproofing investment.

True, you could also go for z97 ...it seems like the price difference between z87 v z97 for the same models are around $10-30 difference which is certainly worth the investment. However, since broadwell will still be on LGA 1150 it wouldn't surprise me to see them release a bios update for support as well. (Assuming you have a higher end board)

The 4770K can have a small performance increase in games that will use 8 threads, but it largely comes from not causing a bottleneck as quickly. On extremely demanding engines paired with very high-end video card setups (such as SLI GTX 780s) a 4770K would be better able to juggle the data needed for the video cards. With just a single GTX 760, GTX 770 or R9 280X I can't imagine there being a remotely significant difference.

If you can afford the extra $100 for a 4770K, I would suggest instead to put that towards a GTX 770 or R9 280X instead of the GTX 760.

It's worth noting that this is single player results, and in multiplayer the results will change. For instance an i3-4130 in BF4 multiplayer will slightly bottleneck a GTX 760. Generally I see the GPU usage of the GTX 760 paired with an i3-4130 at 60-80%.

There's certainly a significant difference between an i3 and an i5 in BF4 multiplayer.

In that case, get a Xeon 1230 v3. It is just a slightly underclocked i7-4770, but costs the same as a i5-4690K.

You can drop it into a H81 motherboard, (saving $50-70 over going Z97), and get all the benefits of an i7.

And have more money towards your GPU, which matters more. For the less than the cost of a 4770k, you could have 4770 performance with motherboard.
