Can I upgrade my CPU on a Gateway DX4860?

I'm using an i3-2100 right now and I'm looking to upgrade it to an i5-3570k in the next two months. I have a couple of questions.

1) Will I be able to easily swap the i3-2100 chip with an i5-3570k on a Gateway DX4860?

2) And if I can, do I gotta reinstall Windows or mess with the BIOS or anything like that? Or do I just simply turn on my comp (after swapping chips) and that's it?

Thanks!

I would not update the bios unless I have some sort of problem that the update fixes.

Yes, the motherboard will run a 3570K, but the H67 chipset will not let you overclock.
You are better off with a less expensive 3570 or a 3350.
If your motherboard does not have a Z77 chipset, you are wasting your money on a 3570K because you will not be able to overclock it.
If I am not mistaken, your motherboard is H67.
Something like a i5-3350 might be better.

1. You should be able to swap cpu chips. Verify that the motherboard supports your new cpu. A bios upgrade might be required.
2. You should have no problem just swapping the cpu chip. Windows activation is mostly related to a motherboard change.

Thanks for responding to my post.

I have verified that my motherboard supports a 3570K (or even a 3350) with this link: http://www.pc-specs.com/mobo/Gateway/Gateway_DX4860/1163/Compatible_CPUs

About updating my BIOS, when I go to this page:

http://us.gateway.com/gw/en/US/content/drivers-downloads

And then I put in "DX4860" in "Search by product model" and then click on the "BIOS" tab, I see these two things to download:

1) BIOS - UEFI for Windows 8 (Not for Upgrades)
2) BIOS (for device with Ivy Bridge & USB 3.0 Supported)

Would I download the second one to update my BIOS?
