Maximum Amount of Ram for ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS

The ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS is the Motherboard I have and on newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131795 It says 8GB Maximum Memory Supported. Now does this mean I can only have two 4GB or can I have two 8GB? So is the technical total memory 16GB or just 8GB...because I need more RAM for my servers.

2x8GB = 16GB according to Asus.

but is says 2 x DIMM, Max. 16GB, DDR3 1866(O.C.)/1600(O.C.)/1333/1066 MHz ECC, Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory so is that max of 16gb per channel
if so doe that mean i could 32 gb total?
