It should work when installed in the Windows non-emulator WINE in versions up to Mint 16, but not Mint 17. Diablo 2 requires the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) which has been deprecated (obsolete) and is no longer available. Well, I could be wrong... but it doesn't work with XUbuntu 14.04 which is the foundation for Mint 17. Also the desktop environment you choose can affect the functioning of Diablo 2. On my hardware the Mate desktop and XFCE desktop seem to work well while Cinnamon behaves squirrily.

Even though this is an old thread, Diablo 2 is a great old game that works well as mouse-only or mouse+keyboard. Thanks to THIS ENTRY on the Wine HQ database, I obtained the GLIDE3-to-OpenGL-wrapper that makes it possible to play Diablo 2 LOD on Linux Mint 17.1 KDE (using WINE, of course). A bit slow to load at startup, but plays properly after loading.
