I recently built a friend of mine a gaming computer, he effectively told me to build the same computer as I had (except with a different case and mobo). Anyway once I built it, I did a windows experience index check and remarked on his better processor score. I decided to do a passmark bench with him, I got back a score in the low 7000's while he was breaking 8500 (with Skype open). I've checked on other sites and I should be getting scores exceeding 8700 (here).

Whats going on? Is it the different motherboard?

My system specs:

Fractal design define R4 case- 2 stock fans
msi z87 g43
corsair vengeance 1600mhz cl9 xmp
corsair cx 750w bronze efficiency
EVGA acx cooler gtx 760
i5 4670k (stock)
Caviar blue 1 tb WD hardrive.

No overclocking on any components- im using windows 7 64 bit ultimate as my os.

Any answers appreciated>

His CPU is at stock speeds as well?
You should check to make sure your CPU isn't throttling. Temps should be staying below 80C. It's possible your CPU cooler isn't adequately cooling the 4670K, resulting in it failing to reach turbo boost speeds and even dropping below the base 3.4GHz speed.
