CPU or Motherboard faulty?

Last christmas I bought a new PC. The PC was custom built. Right from the beginning I have had a crashing problem. Usually during a high-res game, but mostly after, the PC crashes. I have tested all software related problems there has been no fix. I have changed the Power Supply and it still happens. I have returned the GPU and the GPU has no faults, so I'm thinking it has to be the CPU or Motherboard. I am here to ask how I can test which one it could be as I can no longer return either component and I do not have another CPU or Motherboard to try.
