I've recently been building a computer and I have everything installed except for the hard drive which hasn't come in the mail yet. The motherboard and fan's are connected to the PSU. When I plug it in, there is a green light on my motherboard to show that it has power, but then when I press the button to but it up the fans barely start to spin and the front panel leds flash just briefly and then it goes back off. Any help at all?? Thanks

Did you plug in the 4-8 pin aux cpu connector?

Post your build specs. And re-set CMOS.

Mobo: Asus M5A97
PSU: Corsair GS600
CPU: AMD FX 6350
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LP (4x2)
Heatsink: Cooler Master Evo 212
and some fans

I don't have the hard drive yet but that shouldn't be an issue when just powering on to see if fans run and what not. And I don't have the GPU yet either but that shouldn't be a problem either because the mobo graphics.

How do I reset CMOS? Is that with jumper pins?

Unplug the PC from wall and short the CMOS clear pins with the jumper, or just remove the CMOS battery on the motherboard for a few minutes, also while PC is unplugged.

Reset the CMOS and the same thing happens.

Any chance there is a short anywhere? The motherboard touching the case floor instead of resting on standoffs for example?

Go through this checklist.

Try the one stick of RAM idea first, and re-seat the RAM making sure it is tight in slot

Wow, you are my savior! I was an idiot and left out the standoffs. No wonder I had such a hard time fitting my motherboard in. Thank you very much. I went and reinstalled everything with standoffs and it works just fine. :)
