Should I stress test my new PC

So I built my first pc and it worlds well. Got all my programs so far that I want. But I want to make sure everything is working at optimal performance. I haven't OC my CPU yet but will later. I've heard of stress testING the parts with programs like prime95 and Uningine but is it really a good idea? Is it safe and won't damage my parts?

My main components are
OS: Win 8.1 64 bit
CPU : AMD FX 8320
16GB 1333 RAM
GPU: GTX 770 2GB

There's not really a point unless you're planning to overclock.
If you are, it's good to get a base numbers run for temperatures on your chip. I wouldn't recommend overclocking on a stock amd fan though. Pick up something aftermarket for it and slap a decent overclock onto it.
Stress testing is for testing how stable the machine will run (usually after you overclock it). When you're running stock clockspeeds there should be ZERO issues.

As for it being 'safe' of course it would, all stress testing is, is simulating when your working the computer to a full load (like gaming nonstop) Like i said, if your on stock clocks, there will be no issues at all.

If you plan to.. before you actually do it. Run a stress test for a couple hours to see your average temperature. once you overclock your going to run it again for a couple hours to make sure it's stable (doesn't crash your computer). You're going to want to compare the temperatures to see the increase and how hot it's running compared to when it wasn't overclocked.

Hope you understand. But bottom line.... "If your not going to overclock anytime soon... don't bother stress testing".

Sure do a torture test with Prime95 along with HWmonitor to test for the max temps that you will ever reach to make sure it will never overheat! Even if it does get into high temps, it won't hurt your PC for that short time!
