Computer restarts after shut down?

So I have recently built my very first computer, congrats to me, and everything was going smooth as butter until I shut my PC off. For a brief second the LED on my front fan turned off, then the computer rebooted. This has happened every time since and it is very annoying. I have been pushing the switch on my power supply to turn off my system, but it would be nice to see what is going on.

I have checked the motherboard front panel header to see if I plugged in any of the connectors wrong but they all look fine. Like I said, the system shuts down, but then boots right back up. I am not sure if this would be a motherboard problem or a problem with my cases front panel cables.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

just can est one pringle.... :)
I had that issue once with my asus saberthooth mb. the fix is unplug the pc from the wall let the mb drain...get a drink make sure the power good led on the mb is off. then clear the cmos...go in and reset the cmos. then boot into windows and see if it shuts down fine. if it does your all set if not..download the newest bios file for the mb and try to reflash it.

I have actually tried pressing both buttons and the the reset button works just as it should. But when I press the power button, the system shuts down all the way, then reboots itself.

I have a question: Are you moving the mouse or keyboard at all after you select shutdown?

I've been too lazy to fix this myself in the bios. If I even slightly move my mouse, it will turn on the computer (not just from sleep, but from total power down). So my point is, that go into your bios and see if you can change USB power settings there to not wake on mouse. I have the setting in my bios on my MSI board, but I just have not gotten around to changing it.

There have been a few times where it has actually shutdown all the way and not restarted so it could possibly be this. I'll look at it tomorrow and see if this works. Thanks for the help!

You should never shut down your computer via the case power button. Use it only to turn on the PC. Shut down the PC safely through Windows. Only time I use the power button to shut down my PC is when something goes wrong (like it freezes from OC'ing a bit too far).

Yeah It does the exact same thing through shutting down from windows. I usually never shut down via power button

I have tried the bios reset and that did not work. I also unplugged all the power cables and plugged them back in. I did a cmos reset and it still has no effect.

If you recently had a Windows update then there could be the possibility that the CPU multiplier has been changed. If you are able to change this in BIOS try tweaking the multiplier to 15x. I have heard of this problem since Windows XP. The other area to look at is in your network adapter. If you right click on the network adapter in Device Manager you should have "wake up on LAN" unchecked.

Hope this helps
