Hey all. I did something dumb. I sold my GTX 780 a few weeks ago to buy a playstation 4 because i was "Done" with PC Gaming. What a dumb move. i really dont know what i was thinking but now i have to live with my decision.

Now im selling my ps4 for dirt cheap to buy a new video card, i have 350 to spend.

Where im looking i can buy a brand new GTX 770 for under that amount. Or i can buy a USED Sapphire R9 290x OC tri-cooler card for less then a new GTX 770. I loved my GTX 780 but theres no way i can afford another one even used.

I know the main issue with the R9 290x was heat, but im guessing the new cooler takes care of a lot of that. But then again i am looking forward to Star Citizen who will take advantage of Mantle.

Decisions. What would you do?

Solution
Well r9 290 is a bit faster than GTX 770.
The reason i never buy used pc parts is because it may have been overclocked. That means the seller must have modified something and maybe he/she didn't do it properly (e.g not cooled properly, not set properly, etc.)

2 things that you should avoid buying second hand :
PC parts and cellphones
BUt if you trust the guy who sells the r9 290, get that one
Or just buy a new card. Maybe try 7990 it's last gen card but it's still good

I don't think there is anything wrong with buying used PC components but I would be wary about buying any AMD cards after the mining craze. The majority of them are selling very cheap because they were ridden hard and put up wet.

Personally, I'd go with a new Sapphire R9 290 TRI-X OC http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HJOXUKC or if you want to save a bit of cash then just go with the EVGA GTX 770 SC w/ ACX http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CZIQXBA.

I can't recommend buying any used AMD cards right now but nVidia cards are more likely to have been better taken care of. If you know where it's coming from then it may be worth getting the R9 290 used.

Well i asked the seller if its been OC and he said only factory OC. He also have over 150 feedback all 100% positive.

Ive noticed with lots of 280s and 290x's a lot of people are selling used ones in lots of 10+ and was trying to figure out why so many people have so many video cards that are used.. why does one person need 10 video cards? Im guessing the bitcoin thing was it hey?

You're exactly right. Anyone selling more than one of those cards was mining with them.
