I bought a gtx 760 a while ago and upon installation it would only load up the splash screen and then freeze when I start up my computer again. I had 100% correctly installed the CPU, checked to make sure I grounded myself every time I handled it, and did everything correctly software related. However, it only would load to the HP splash screen, then freeze. If I went back to my old graphics card, it would start up fine.

I had read around that the PSU may be lacking and that would cause an issue like this, but I never had a definitive answer really. I wanted to ask to see if my PSU would be not giving enough power to the card and thats why it isnt loading correctly.

My current specs:
CPU: fx6100
GPU: HD 7770
RAM: 10 gigs
PSU: 520W Dynex PSU
Mobo: Gigabyte 2AC8

I was pondering upgrading to a good 600/650W 80 plus gold rated PSU to see if that would fix the issue, and I wanted some inupt as to whether that's a good idea. I really dont wanna have this GPU that was 250$ go to waste =(

Gold rating is just better soldering work/components so that less electricity is lost as heat. I have 3 of the XFX TS 550 since they are cheap and made by a good original equipment manufacturer (OEM) (the PRO 550 and CORE 550 is the same as the TS 550 in case you start seeing variants) There is also a XFX TS 550 Gold for $100 but if you want to spend $100 then might as well get the EVGA G2 750 Watts since it is gold rated as well as higher wattage

Min recommended PSU is 500w. I would go with 600 watt minimum.

This might not be too bad:

Updated:
The higher and lower the load capacity on a PSU you reach, the less efficient the PSU will be. Your PSU will be most efficient at about 70-80% load capacity.

The one I linked also has above average quality capacitors/coils which will reduce/prevent any electrical noise which is common with many PSU's while using higher powered graphics cards.
