Almost all "recommended" wattage is overstated.
My 760 requires 500w, but only draws ~250 at max load.
That sounds about right for a 650.
Is there a site that has the actual power use of graphics cards??
Do Google searches or read articles to find the card's TDP (Thermal Design Power). That's the actual wattage the GPU should be drawing at max load, though it does vary slightly. This is not to be confused with the "recommended power supply" thing they put on the box, which is grossly inflated because Nvidia and AMD have to assume we're using garbage PSUs.
Additionally, video card reviews on major sites like Tom's and Anandtech and such typically include a section examining power and temperature data (spoiler: its usually very close to the TDP). Anandtech in particular tends to express the power usage as TOTAL system power draw at load, which is useful and a figure you'll also find surprisingly low.
Edit: 250 W sounds high for the 170-watt GTX 760. Are you sure that's just the card, not the whole system? Check out
