Hey everyone! I've been having a problem and I believe I have been defeated by this problem but I still want some input from other people.I know my way around a computer being certified in several Cisco certifications so don't try to simplify things too much.

Alright so I have an 8GB sandisk micro sd card in my smart phone and I was using my phone and I was doing nothing out of the ordinary and then I see a message that said the storage device was unexpectedly removed from the phone. I didn't think much of this at first but when I realized my photos and music were missing I began to worry.

I tried restarting my phone and re-inserting the sd card several times with no result. I attempted to connect the micro sd to my computer through a micro sd card to sd card adapter. Upon inserting the adapter with the card nothing happened. The computer didn't detect anything just like my smart phone. It is like the card just doesn't exist.

I tried a micro sd card to usb adapter and received a different result. Upon plugging in the usb adapter a message came up saying that the drive needs to be formatted before it can be used. This was a good sign so I attempted to recover data through different methods and it brought no result.

I used 4 different types of recovery software such as find and mount, recuva, icare, and minitool. Lastly I tried using the chkdsk command in windows command promt and all it said is that that operation could not be performed due to unknown file system. This goes for all other recovery software it either contained no data or could not be read due an unidentifiable file system. I also attempted to format the drive but windows gave me an error, the drive can not be formatted.

Also the size of the drive is supposedly 38mb even though it is an 8GB micro sd card. I had some precious data in there, the kind of data that contains memories of the past and it will hurt to lose it all but thats technology. I just wish I hadn't removed a back up I made of my phones sd card roughly 2 years ago. I believe I have tried everything but if anyone has any recommendations please let me know thank you!

Hi TechOfreak,

Sounds like you have tried many correct ways to recover your precious data.
You can still try to see if the connectors on the sd card are clean and maybe wipe it with some dry cloth or alcohol (not water).

It is very likely that the card is just plain broken, but you could also try ghosting the SD card to your PC and try to recover from the blocks recovered, but form the sound of it, parts of the SD broken and are inaccessible. Maybe other adapters may result in more data.

Thanks for your input I'm going to try cleaning the connectors using a Q-tip with isopropyl alcohol. I have tried cloning the drive but the image created tends to be empty because no files were founds. I'll reply back in a while after I try that. Once again thank you.
