I dropped my external hard drive when moving last year. Finally popped it open today to see what was jingling inside and found this...

Basically the USB thinger (which was in two pieces and bent out of shape before I put it back together) got violently detached from the green thinger. Sorry I can't be more descriptive. I don't know all the names of all the parts.

Is there any way to fix this? If not, is there any way to retrieve my data?

Hi :) yeah~ that's what one side of it looks (not sure if it's considered the top or bottom). The part that fell off is on the opposite side.

The piece that fell off that's in my fingers in the picture I posted attaches where I drew the red arrows. I know this for certain because, well, where it got detached there's little damage patches and that's the only place it can go to pop out of the hole in the case to allow the usb cable to plug in...

all you need is the hard drive itself , the image i posted and it can be plugged into another computer and the data taken off it or put in an external case and hooked up to your computer/laptop via usb

out of curiosity what was the drive hooked up to ?

It had the usb cable in it when it fell is all.

So, how do I plug it in then? The part where the USB plug is inserted is the part that came detached. That's the part that's in my fingers in the photo.

It already has a case... this was an external drive to start with. But the USB plug snapped off the green part. It should be attached to where I have drawn the red arrow. So, the only thing that will connect anymore is the power cord. I can't plug anything else in.
