whenever I try to play my recently purchased audio cd, my Dell Studio 1558 asks for a blank cd to be inserted; and the cd's short cut menu says that this is a blank cd!; incidentally, this is not the case with all the other cdc that I throw at my Dell; what gives?

Solution
Not all CDs can play in computers, there was a funky copy protection thing some companies were doing to prevent people from ripping and uploading CDs. Then change the CD standard so it did not work with computers and they were actually not allowed to put the Compact Disk logo on the disks because it did not comply with the CD standards.

Try it with a regular CD player.
