I have several computer problems that hopefully someone can fix:
1. I change XMP profiles for RAM, and when I reboot, the I have to clear the CMOS.
2. Windows 8.1 takes over 1 minute to boot up, even on an SSD.
3. Windows 8.1 crashes every time I wake the computer from sleep.
4. When the desktop appears, icons for everything are white pages and nothing opens until 30 seconds in.

Hopefully someone has some answers

A 16 GB USB drive will be enough, if you have less than 16 GB of data to back up.

If changing the profiles for your RAM doesn't work, don't change them. Not all RAM will run happily in all systems using the XMP profiles. Do you have mixed RAM installed?

For that matter, is this a store bought, branded computer, or something custom built, or that you have upgraded or had upgrades done to?

If you're really having so many problems, it sounds like it's time to reinstall Windows. Trying to fix it will likely take longer and have less than satisfactory results.

If your computer was purchased pre-built from a major name brand, it likely has a recovery partition you can access through a recovery method, detailed in your users manual. Doing so would restore it to the state it was in when you first pulled it out of the box, provided the contents of any recovery partition are still intact.

I've custom built it. I'm very experienced with the hardware side but not the software. Just gotta find a 47GB drive hanging around. I may actually re-install it on a Samsung EVO 120GB SSD instead now that the prices have come down
