Hey guys,

I can't decide whether to buy a laptop with with an 840m or build an ITX with a 7850k. I'd be using it mainly for watching movies and day-to-day tasks. I'm not a hardcore gamer but rather a casual gamer so its gaming performance still kind of matters to me. I have an extra 18 inch (1366*768) monitor around the house and I plan on connecting either the laptop or ITX to that, so that would be my main resolution for everything.

Strictly speaking, which of the two would be better at games, GT 840m or 7850k APU?

Thanks!

Well first off, a laptop is WAY more expensive for the performance you get when compared to a desktop. The 7850k APU seems to perform better than the GT 840m as far as I can see and it would be much cheaper, but if you build a desktop then you should consider a dedicated GPU. If you need a laptop because you are on the go or you could use one for work or school then get the laptop.

If you do any kind of gaming besides starting Minecraft from time to time, you should build an ITX desktop and get a dedicated GPU. There are some great deals out there if you look.

One thing that is nice about a laptop is being able to take it around the house and watch movies in other rooms or on the couch, so that may also be worth considering.
