Recently bought a PC for £500 that I intend to use for general computing plus media such as movies and music. after a few months I plan to upgrade it with a gpu to allow fairly high end gaming on the system aswell.
The specs of the system at present are:
Asrock fm2a75 pro4+
AMD a10 6800k
1X 8GB 1600 mhz
1 TB 7200 RPM SATA3
Zalman Z3 plus
Corsair CX 600
I have read posts online of people saying an apu and a gpu is a waste and a stupid idea, however I want to enjoy rich media and some light gaming before upgrading the gpu, hence why I'm getting a cpu with graphics built in. I'm looking for opinions on this rig and to hear people's views on the apu+gpu thing.
The gpu I intend to buy is an r9 270X (maybe 4GB edition) but no higher than this as I've been informed a 280X and above would be bottlenecked by the 6800k. I will also be adding another stick of ram at some stage to bring it up to dual channel 16GB.
Thanks in advance

APU + GPU is fine. It is usually a decent 4 core CPU that can OC well.

A lot of people do exactly what you did, start with a budget build and upgrade the GPU later on.

The 280x is a strong GPU. If you decide to upgrade to a different motherboard and CPU later, it will work well in that future build as well.

Thanks for the replies, other thing I was thinking about was the cooler. Without an overclock will the stock cooler of the 6800k be enough to cool the cpu while gaming?
