Hi everyone,

I posted a thread like 10 mins ago about if the evga gtx 780 can fit into a case i want to buy. Anyways, like the title says, which one should i buy? the EVGA gtx 780 or an r9 290x. Im not sure which r9 290x to choose, but please choose one for me as you know more than me.

Thanks for reading!

any R9 290X will be better, short and simply.

Sapphire Tri-X/Vapor-X/MSI Twin/Tri (Lightning) Frozr/Asus DirectCU II/TOP/Matrix/ Gigabyte Windforce REV 2.0

Take your pick.

sorry if you already bought it but a sapphire dual x is good (vapor x is better looking and kinda better at cooling, or asus top dcII but i hrd that had some issue but they may be fixed if not RMA. Or return. Msi has twin frozor and i heard is better at cooling, make sure its a good brand you use ( dont use zotac for cooling) heard there not good

XFX R9 290X has a very similar design to the EVGA one but its not 'as' good but very very similar, a gigabyte Windforce would be sufficient for a R9 290X and is pretty much the same size as the XFX, as to which card my paragraph explains it all, the R9 290X beats the GTX 780 in almost every game, there are very few games which are poorly optimised for AMD and thats why the 780 might win but usually those games aren't worth playing. Got anymore question just ask I'm around often. Good luck :)

yeah amd has way better perfomance/price 289$ r9 280x can be on par with a 400$ gtx 770, nvidia makes you pay a premimum for sometimes less performance. nvidia only has, gsync, physix but gysnc requires expensive gysnc ready monitor so forget it.

290X is faster - 780 is cooler :)  So you can oc the 780 more than you would do with the 290x :)

get a r9 290x lightining its a beast overclocker and is one of the sexiest gpus or a lightining 780 but thats less performance for around the same price so get the r9 290x

Dont get a lightning because then you paying the unreasonable prices of a GTX 780 TI and i could justify paying so much more for that when you only literally gain 1 FPS on ALOT of games, if you were to go high end get the Sapphire R9 290X Vapor-X or get the Reference AMD R9 290X and liquid cool that either one of those options will achieve the same performance as the lightning or better.

Its only a little bit hotter but even if you OC the 780 the 290X GPU is still faster so put on water they both cost the same and you would get more performance out of the 290X through overclocking as well.

On PC Case Gear the GTX 780 costs the same as a R9 290X which is bad for NVIDIA and again an R9 290 costs the same as a GTX 770 which still sucks, right now AMD is the best unless you wait for the new GTX 880 because that will probably cost the same as a 780 and you will be up to date so i would wait (guess what? I AM WAITING!)

even it's just a little hotter it's still hotter.. And you can oc the 780 to the level and even higher than a 290x.. and putting water is a totally different thing.

if you get a good overclockable r9 290x trust me it'll beat the 780 there both on par(unless you mean the 780 not ti then the r9 290x is way better) the 780ti beats and sometimes loses to the r9 290x so overclocking both will probably give almost the same performance

well i can say the '' enemy of the series is more to be '' 270x vs 760 280x vs gtx 770 290 vs gtx 780 290x vs gtx 780 ti

I would recommend going with the Sapphire R9 290 TRI-X OC http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HJOXUKC. The 290X isn't worth the price hike for the performance gain over the 290.

The TRI-X cooler is one of the best and most efficient for the 290 and Sapphire is the most reliable manufacturer of AMD graphics cards. The 780 is a great card but the 290 has a much better price to performance ratio.

The only reason to go with the nVidia card is if you can take advantage of the extra features such as Shadowplay.

Sorry, but even a reference 770 will be faster than a factory overclocked 280X.

are you sure those our from 2014 not just orignial launch i think the drivers make them perform better in games. I hear a ton of people saying a r9 280x is better than a gtx 770
