Hello guys,
I'm currently using a Radeon HD 7850 2GB gpu, and I'm thinking of upgrading sometime in the future, which GPU should I be looking at, I was planning on a Radeon R9 290?
Would that be worth the upgrade?
Cheers!

My processor is an Intel Core i5 3570k 3.4ghz.

You're using a very low-res monitor. The R9 290 is appropriate for gaming at 2560x1440, to say nothing of 1920x1080. Do you feel your HD 7850 is not keeping you at 60 FPS in most games at that resolution? I'd be a bit surprised if you needed anything faster than that.

I'm glad I asked, for your bank account's sake. :p

R9 290 Is over kill for you system right now based on the res you are playing. If you don't plan on upgrading your Monitor. I recommend a r9 270. But a R9 290 would last you plus if you plan on upgrading th monitor. You have a capable vid card to run it on.

You could spend $250 on a GTX 760 and still have a video card capable of gaming at 1080p. Or a GTX 770 for $300. Unless you're going bigger than 1080p, I don't think you need to spend $400+ on a video card.

Most common resolution for gaming (or anything, really) is 1080p, or 1920x1080. Its not really a "minimum," because there's only a few choices.
