I am using the paragon hard disk program to migrate my copy of 8.1 from my old hdd to my new ssd. I'm not sure which files I need to copy in order to move my os to my ssd. I would imagine all i need to copy is windows and windows.old

Solution
Windows old is a copy of your older windows install, a backup of windows from a previous upgrade or transfer, it's probably useless to you so long as the current install is working fine.

I've never used that software but you need to do is do an image not a backup. The difference is backups can't copy files the OS opens when it boots. Imaging software loads before the OS so the system files aren't open. I use Acronis Tru Image and I just get a USB drive enclosure and put the target drive in the case. Then I tell Acronis to copy the image and then the drive in the enclosure is a complete duplicate of the HD. I just swap out the drive and boot up using the SSD.

I used Paragon's automatic migrate program ("Migrate OS to SSD" to do. Makes a complete copy of you C: drive and will shrink it if necessary too. Sets up everything, can even leave the old C: drive in, make it a different drive letter, and format and use it if you want.

Hi there. I'm in the process of attempting to clone my old HDD to a new SSD using Paragon Migrate OS to SSD.. Just wondering, before I go fully ahead with it.. When should you or should you not check the box for "create new EFI boot entry for destination drive???
