How to set up a new firewall, switch, and access point?

Hi. I've been tasked with the responsibility of setting up new network equipment for a small company I'm affiliated with. I know my way around an IT problem, but setting up a network consisting of something other than a modem and Linksys router? Entirely new frontier for me.

Luckily this seems like an easy setup. However, I'll need your help with a few things.

I need to hook up a new firewall, access point, and switch to an existing connection.

Currently, the setup is modem ---> wireless router ---> old 6-port hub ----> 4 wired computers.

They want it set up modem ---> firewall ---> wireless router or hub ---> switch ---> branch off to access point and 4 wired computers. (new equipment in bold).

First things first.

Once that's taken care of, I assume the cord from the firewall can plug into the router or hub, then another long cord can lead to the switch. (The switch needs to be fairly close to the 4 computers to cut down on cable management issues). Do I need to plug the cord from the firewall to router/hub into any specific port?

Then, finally, I assume another cable can run from the switch directly into an access point?

Again, I apologize for the incredibly noob question, and I really appreciate your help. One other point of consideration, apparently the place they got this equipment from, pre-configured it. So I really hope it should be plug in and go. If it's not, anything additional I need to consider?

Thank you.

The cabling will be trivial compared to making a firewall work. A fortigte is pretty easy but if you have not done firewall you are going to have lots to learn.

The modem port if it even exists on that device is a the old dial up kind of modem. You want your modem attached to a wan port. You will want to plug the switch directly into the firewall. If you need wireless at that location plug the router into the firewall also but run it as a AP.

The firewall should assume all the function you currently do with your router. If you were to place a router between the users and the firewall it would appear as all traffic can from a single user defeating the reason most people put in firewalls.
