So I decided to take a shot at building my first gaming system. I've set a budget for $600 CDN. I found this build on another thread and just wondered if there's anything I should change?

Here's some info

Pricing a build in canada is much harder than in the US. You will probably have $60-70 in shipping/taxes on top of that. (maybe more)

Thanks for the input! My $600 budget is just so I don't go too crazy.. I know it'll come in over $600 with sh/tax and I'm okay with that.

just a question, is the CPU Cooler really necessary for this build? I'm not too concerned about the money, just wondering when you should use one and when you don't need to.

Yea, my first build went from $850 up to $1,100 xD so I understand setting limits. :p

I also added in the CPU cooler because I thought you would overclock. If you aren't overclocking ,you won't need it. AM3 cpus tend to get pretty hot, so that's why you see people putting them in with 8320's and in overclock builds.

(if you look at prebuilts with the 8320, you will see lots of fails because the 8320 doesn't have a good CPU cooler.)

Your mobo has 4+1 VRM that are heat sinked, so that means it'd be ok for normal use and even slight overclocking if you wanted to.

Yeah, I'm not really sure if I want to overclock or not, but if you say that these cpus get a little toasty, I'll probably keep it in there (maybe I might try overclocking in the future). Thanks for the help. Now off to find a thread on how to put a computer together...

Went ahead an purchased this system... The ASRock 970 Pro3 motherboard wasn't available so I went with the AsRock 970 Extreme3 ($99 at newegg.ca). The system came in at $688 including shipping and taxes. I'm pretty happy at that price. Thanks again for the help!
