Considering purchasing a used graphics card as an upgrade from a GT440

A friend is selling the following

Radeon HD 6950
MSI 8600 GT
MSI 8800 GTX
EVGA 8800 GTS (x2)

Would any of those be a viable upgrade to my current ASUS GT440? I did some research and some of the cards apparently cannot run DX11, I am not sure if that is a big issue?

My mobo does have SLI capable PCI-E slots and has plenty of PSU.

Cheers for any help available.

All of those are last generation cards, and while some of them would be a power-wise upgrade to your GT440, you really want a more modern card (6XX or R-Series). Unless he's selling them dirt-cheap, I'd look for something better.

Would it be a noticeable increase over my GT440?

I have read into comparisons, specs etc. I am putting in research effort, I have just been misled by nearly all of my GPU purchases since I started PC gaming -- thus I seek knowledgeable advice from you all to help me "figure it out".

My current set up is a amd phenom 965 black OCd @ 3.62GHz and 4gb of DDR2 ram.

I can play games like Fallout New Vegas (older games) on pretty decent settings but I am interested in something that would be a noticeable increase over my GT440.

Despite being an old card, do you think the HD 6950 would be a big boost to my performance in games? Or would I still be better off buying a new card?

If it would be viable to purchase it, would you be willing to classify what "dirt cheap" would be? I see them new for ~100-150. Used ones are slightly less but I am unsure what a good used price would be.

Thanks again for all of the information guys, It truly helps me become slightly less clueless in regards to my GPU search, both old and new.

*EDIT* I am also not completely against buying a new card, I am just seeking for a possible cheap solution that will cater to my desires for playing games that are a few years old.

Still browsing around for a slightly older dx11 capable card that will out perform my gt440 enough to warrant purchasing it. Will be searching around on ebay.

Interested in buying used and spending $80-100 or less (even if it takes awhile to win a low interest auction).

Any recommendations?

That "beast of a card" is only about as fast as a GTX 650, and takes a lot more power to get there. Its also two generations old, not one.

guy2020, of the cards you listed the HD 6950 is "the best," in that its the only one not 8-ish years old, but it would be better if you could let us know what your budget and monitor resolution are so we could recommend something a little better.
