I plug my headset into my computer and I can hear though it just fine but the mic does not work. When I'm in a skype call I can hear my friends but they can't hear me; they hear what ever video/music I have running.

-I have the correct skype settings.
-I uninstalled/re installed the driverss.
-I restarted my computer did the thing where i Pull it out and plug it back in 100 times.

Anyone know whats wrong with my headset?

Solution
If they hear what you are playing you have the default recording device to Stereo Mix(Realtek) or What-U-Here(creative). Other cards may call it something else.

Please use the recording settings in Windows to ensure mic is set to default.

Hit Start and type Sound
Select the speaker icon called Sound
Select Recording
Right Click on your mic and set as default recording and communication device.
Restart Skype and see if it helps.

You could have a couple of things going on here:

1) You might have plugged a "headset" plug which combines both input & output into your line-out jack. Thus, the line-out will only give you the output. Please check your headset; if you have two plugs hanging off of it, then you have separate mic & headphones connectors. If you have only one plug, then you have the combined "headset" style and you'll need to get a converter to separate the mic & headphones connections for your PC.

2) Perhaps the mic itself is bad. Did you try another headset?

3) Separately, look to see if there is a gain control for your mic, or even if the unit has a mute button. It might be something simple like that.

4) Check to see what Windows has listed as your Default Recording device. Run the mic test to make sure it works.

Edit: Looks like nukemaster beat me to the punch.
