I have a laptop with an eSATA/USB combo port (no eSATAp 12V lines).

I have a device that requires an eSATAp connection.

Is there a product out there that consists of a 12V wall adapter, a male eSATA connection, and a female eSATAp connection, to inject 12V lines into eSATA? I've been looking around but I can't find anything, everything I find goes the other direction (e.g. male eSATAp to female eSATA + male tip/ring DC jack).

Device needs 670mA on the 5V line and 960mA on the 12V line.

Thanks!

Well, I got the following setup working:

- 3.5" IDE drive to Vantec IDE<->SATA adapter.
- SATA data to eSATA port (via eSATA => SATA combined cable, then SATA combined => power + data splitter, power unused).
- IDE drive power and adapter power to separate ATX power supply.

It's ugly, but it's working and I haven't fried anything yet.

What are your intentions with this? Do you want to read what's on your drive externally? Cuz if so, there are external hdd docks that provide eSATA connection AND 12V power. You can then connect the dock directly to a computer with USB.

I have a 3.5" IDE drive and I also need SMART support and full ATA command support. I have an IDE => SATA converter that also supports passing SMART and ATA commands. USB will not work here (unless you know of a USB/IDE interface with full ATA support, but I have never seen such a thing, and it would need proprietary drivers anyways as that's not part of the USB mass storage profile). I have an eSATA port but the drive needs power. The IDE/SATA converter is powered off the 5V line but the IDE drive needs a 12V line as well. I also have an eSATAp => split SATA data / power / IDE power cable. I just don't have an eSATAp port. I suppose I could just use an external power supply with IDE connectors for the drive and adapter, and data only to eSATA.

But the most convenient thing would be an adapter that injects power into an eSATA connection, which seems like a reasonable use case but I guess not...

I basically have everything I need except power for the drive.

No. It's a laptop. I only have an available eSATA port. I need to keep the laptop's internal drive in place and attach this as a second device.

USB won't work for data. I need an ATA command interface.

It sounds like I will just be using the SATA => eSATA interface for data, and I'll dig up an old ATX power supply for power. I just wanted to check here if there was an eSATAp power injector device first, since that would be more convenient (as currently I essentially have an eSATAp to IDE data+power adapter, just no 12V eSATAp port). I thought for sure they would exist but surprisingly that doesn't seem to be the case.
