Hey Toms! I just got a job for the summer and wanna replace my 5 yo system with atop of the line new one :D. So I want to make sure i make an investment with this one, and want my parts to stay current for a few years. Im going to do a closed loop cooler because it looks awesome, either the Corsair 350D or 400D, Nvidia card because I have only used AMD and wanna try a new GPU

My main concern is the motherboard. To my understanding, the new z97 has been introduced and also have heard about using SSDs in the PCI slots for the best speed and performance (and i LOVE SSDs lol). If using PCIE slots for SSDs is the best performance gain, should i then go ATX instead of m-ATX so i could add more SSDs? I know i want to get either an i5 or an i7, don't know much more than that.

I only want to have to replace my GPU in a few years, I dont want my MOBO becoming obsolete right when i buy it :/. Should i wait on the mobo and cpu?

GPU: GEFORCE 760 or 770 (I wanna try Nvidia, have only used AMD radeon 4850/ sapphire 6850 toxic)

CPU: i5 or i7

CPU cooler: Corsair h100i with NF-F12's (wanna try a closed loop cooler, i know the NH-D15 is the ultimates cooling, will do that next build)

MOBO: either ASUS or an ASrock

Fans: Noctuas everywhere down the road :D

Hard drives: currently have Intel 120gb, going to add a Samsung Evo

Case: Corsair 350D/ 400D

PSU: A semi modular, gold certified 650w, probably from Corsair

RAM: 8 gb DDR3

Solution
Z97 is expected to support the new "Broadwell" Intel CPU's coming out by the end of this year. You can use PCIe SSD but Z97 boards can also support M.2 or SATA-express slots. They should be viable for a few years.

Well Broadwell is just a "tick," a shrinking of Haswell with a bit of optimization so expectations wouldn't be as great as for Skylake (the new "tock" coming next year). It seems like more of the same we've seen lately: heavy focus on power efficiency and integrated graphics. Of course a lot of that becomes irrelevant when you use a video card.

On the other hand you could well say that the slower pace of CPU advancement lately reduces the pressure to look ahead.

Yeah i can tell there has been a slow growth in terms of desktop cpus >_<. Also, you mind telling me if those ROG motherboards by ASUS are worth it, or are they way over priced and i should only get a sub $150 Motherboard? Thanks for your quick replies!
