760gm-e51 by MSI
PNY Nvidia gtx 650
4gb of Ram
AMD anthlon II x3 435 CPU
As you can tell by the specs, I'm very knew to the pc world.
To start off I've tried downloading the correct Drivers, tried rolling back and uninstalling drivers, everything is unmuted. RealtekHD is selected as the default playback device but still insists that its not plugged in when it really is. If any one could please direct in the right path that would be very appreciated:??:

Hmm... I've been researching and pondering your issue, and am sadly no nearer to finding an answer. I fear this is something I'm not going to be able to help with, but I do have a few suggestions on what to do next.

In addition to the things I've already suggested (that you haven't already tried), try completely removing all traces of the audio drivers (uninstall and then use some variety of driver sweeper to make absolutely sure) and then reinstall them once again. It could be related to a corrupted install that doesn't get removed properly during a normal uninstallation.

This will be annoying, I know, but try going over every component and program relating to your audio once again with a fine tooth comb. A long shot, I know, but...

What are you trying to listen with; speakers, headphones? Where have you got them currently plugged in; back panel socket (which one?), front panel 'headphone' socket?

The fact it's claiming you haven't got anything plugged in seems likely to be culprit, so we just need to figure out why it thinks that.

Thanks Rookie for replying, I'm "trying" to plug into the back panel socket (Green). Although I have tried all of them. Currently I have my speakers plugged into the back panel. I opened the RealtekHD Manager at first it asked me to plug my speakers in, I then disabled the front panel all together and then it showed up with options and a visual picture for a speaker setup. Any help is appreciated. Thanks boss

Sorry for the slow response.

From what you've said, this could be a tricky one to figure out, so let's check some things off to start with (correct me if I'm wrong about any of them):

You've got the correct drivers from the MSI site - Realtek High Definition Audio Driver version 6.0.1.6586.
You have it off mute for the "Realtek HD Audio Output" on the "mixer" tab in the Realtek software.
You have the Realtek device selected as default playback device.
You have the speakers plugged into the correct (green - middle left) plug on the back.
On the "Audio I/O" tab in the Realtek software, when you plug in your speakers nothing shows up as being connected.

Now, some more questions/possibilities.

I take you've never had audio work on this computer? Or is it a recent problem?
Have you tried plugging in the speakers to the front panel? A long shot, but worth trying.
Do you have any other speakers/headphones you could test with? Again, a long shot.
When you uninstall the realtek drivers completely, after you restart the computer do you still have a valid playback option when you look? A Windows default driver for the audiochip, or something similar? If you do, give that a try.
Is there an option in the BIOS that relates to the audio? Look to see if it's enabled or disabled.

OK. So I have the correct driver installed, the audio is not on mute on the audio tab in Realtek manager, it is selected as the default playback device (it the only playback device, everything else says unplugged). I do have the speakers plugged into the correct jack. On the right side of the Realtek manager it shows the possible jacks to be plugged into (no one plug is highlighted or shows it being plugged in). Big variable, but I did receive the board in almost new condition. I have tried plugging into the front jack (in vain). I have uninstalled drivers and rebooted various times without success. As for the BIOS I cannot find any sign of enabling/disabling audio. Is it possible that the no audio problem could be related to an out of date BIOS? I don't want to flash it unless its absolutely necessary. Thanks

V2.3? Wait, what motherboard do you have? According to the MSI site, the latest BIOS for the 760GM-E51 is 1.A which was released in 2011-02-28. Do you actually have a 785GM-E51 motherboard? That would make more sense, as that BIOS you listed belongs to the 785GM-E51 motherboard.

I should note that I'm not sure the different motherboard will necessarily make that much of a difference when it comes to me trying to figure out the issue, but it might do though, so it's best I clarify with you now which board you actually have.

I realized that mistake recently, you are correct it is the 785gm-e51. I'm really hoping that I can get this sound to work

I haven't seen anything obvious in the more recent BIOS releases that would apply to your particular sound issues (BIOS updates normally fix hardware issues, and yours sounds more like a software one), but you could consider updating to the latest version, as a last resort (again, you don't need to, and if you're not comfortable doing this, you shouldn't).

To go along with the last one, you could think about reinstalling Windows and starting again from scratch (a common route to take when people exhaust other easier options). But again, you don't need to do this, and could/should probably skip to my next point before doing this one.

Regarding what to do next, besides trying again on the forums here, the MSI forums might help, as there are a lot of people with very specific knowledge of their products there. You may also need to think about contacting MSI's technical support as well; I haven't had any personal experience with them, but I believe they're meant to be reasonably good.

If all else fails, sadly you may need to return the motherboard (either to where you bought it, or a warranty claim direct to MSI) and get a replacement; it's possible it really is a hardware issue.
