Hi guys.

I'm looking to upgrade my cpu fan and can't decide whether to get the hyper 212 evo or seidon 120v.

My case is a CIT Neptune and only has one intake fan on the front, space for two fans on the side and one on the back.

If I purchase the Seidon the radiator will sit where the back exhaust fan should be meaning I would probably have to use the side fans as exhausts.

If i purchase the Evo I can have the back as an exhaust. The air would come in the front rise up through the pc and out the back.

What worries me is my motherboard is only a ga-78lmt. My graphics card is sat right above my Universal Audio DSP card meaning the hot air coming out of the UAD is being sucked straight into the GTX 650. When I play the odd game under high load the GTX 650 will reach temps up to about 90C. I thought maybe I should install both side fans as intakes to try and cool the GPU and UAD. Would having 3 intakes and 1 exhaust be a problem?

I'm on a limited budget and ideally only have about £50 to spend on 2 side fans and a cpu cooler.

Also I apologise if this is in the wrong section

How are the fan slots on the side. Are they on the bottom/top are they side by side. Why don't you just have 2 and 2. One side exhausting while other intake. Ideally you would want a slightly positive to even airflow.

don't sacrifice airflow for the cpu cooler especially on a weak mobo. I would do it like this -> small cooler like the Sycthe samurai + read exhaust +front intake+ side exhaust. In comparison to the added airflow the positive pressure is not that important BUT if your gpu is your main concern then use the the side fans also for intake.

We must remember the 50 pound budget :)

My side fans are top / bottom. Top directly opposite CPU, Bottom directly opposite GPU.

I'm thinking front intake and rear exhaust. Both side fans intake. Or would I be better off having the side fan opposite the GPU as intake and the one opposite the CPU exhaust. I kinda assumed with the side fans being op top of one another, having them in / out, they would cancel each other out.

Also would the Scythe samurai be more efficient than the 212 evo. The difference in price is only about £10 on ebay.

I only built this pc for music production which is why I cheaped out on the MOBO. The Universal Audio plugin card gets really hot as it only has a small heatsink and no fan. Unfortunately I can't disable the UAD card when I'm not using it for music.

the samurai is not more efficient but its efficient enough for your cpu. Also since the evo 212 can't accommodate those side fans this is a great choice for its cost as it also cools motherboard vrm area. Don't have the side fans blow in/out as you will lose some of their airflow.

Get a better intake fan, one with much higher cfm and static pressure, like a Cougar Vortex PWM, or Noctua NF-P12. Forget about side fans. Mount the Seidon directly to the existing rear exhaust and use it as the exhaust in push/pull. Net effect is the gpu will create more draw when the fan spins up, but will have a better supply of cooler air from the intake. By using a CLC you eliminate the CPU as a heat source as it heat is vented directly out. An aircooler vents the heat back into the case

Unless you use server fans it won't be enough with only 2 fans and no top exhaust. Its not a bad idea but its just not enough for a bad case.

I have just checked my case and can apparently install a second fan on the front.

So 2 intake front, 2 exhaust side, and 1 exhaust back plus Scythe Samurai will be the way forward then.

Unless you think a Scythe shuriken is worth the extra few quid.

Lastly are the Arctic Cooling F12's any good. I can get the Samurai plus 3 f12's for around £35-£40.

I can only vouch for samurai, grand kama cross, katana 3 & 4 as these are the only ones i've used in builds either my own or built for someone else.

Ok many thanks. I'm glad I never went ahead and purchased the Evo now seeing as it won't fit with the side fans.

Funnily enough I only purchased the Neptune case last week when a friend offered me it dirt cheap. I should of done my homework really.
