The thing I'm not sure about is the CPU/mobo.
In your opinion, what is the best performing and most future-proof CPU and motherboard for my build for about $300 (or less)?
Again, I'm open to AMD or Intel.
-I don't need integrated graphics
-Preferably a neutral-colored mobo (to go with color scheme)

Thank you! :D

future proof is a hard word... with a cpu I can say.. yes, if you have an overclockable cpu, then yes its future proof, just get a better cooling now or in the future and you are ok... PSU, 80+gold or above, yes, its future proof, it will degrade slower and last for a long time... memory is memory, 8gb is enough... maybe in 1 year a few games might need more than 8, but you can always add more...

video card keeps always changing so its irrelevant... the pricier you get now, the longer it will be able to run new games smoothly... so you can either buy a pricy one and use it for 2 years, or buy a medium one, and buy one again sooner...

I think this will do for a long time... however if you dont mind spending a little more money... I would recoment the intel platfor with those new z97 motherboards that just launched... the have a lot of features, especialy the gaming once... have very good and new sound chips on there, some even have a built in keyboard key macro chip (so you can set macros without buying a keyboard with that function)... for example either asus z97 ROG line or gigabytes z97 G1 killer or something like that...

and for the processor, one or the other.. either i5 4690k (the priciest one, maybe the name is wrong) (if you will just play games and nothing more) or i7 4970k (if you want to record your gameplay, stream, etc... if not, it will give you 1-3fps so whatever)

UPDATE:
I'm thinking about
Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
with
MSI Z87-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

also, I heard that pairing MSI Gaming mobos with MSI Gaming GPUs makes a performance difference. Is this true? If so, is it noticable?
I could go with the MSI Radeon R9 290 4GB TWIN FROZR Video Card for the same price as the ASUS.
