Hi all, so I have a bit of an issue here. I have an ASUS r9 280X, which gives me good performance for what I intend to do for the most part, but I would like to sell it due to the fact that it artifacts and would like to try out another GPU (I like new stuff). I play games like league of legends maxed, bf4 mostly maxed and watch dogs almost maxed, all at 1080p. I would like to be able to game at 5040x1050 (2 1680x1050 monitors and one 1080p which gets down scaled.) and I feel as if I still need atleast a 3gb card for that, so its probably going to be a 4gb card if I end up upgrading GPU. I would like to be able to play gta V, far cry 4 and the next assassins creed maxed, GTA hopefully over 3 screens (probably too ambitious lol), and i was wondering what card i should get. Also I will be buying this second hand. The r9 290 will be a reference cooler while the 770 will be some other cooler, as that is all that is for sale. Also, i run 3 screens off my current card so i have an active displayport to dvi adapter, will i be able to use the current 3 as my main monitors and run my hd tv off hdmi with the hdmi port off both cards? and do i need matching screens for surround? Any answer is greatly appreciated.

I would go for a 4GB R9 290. Get anything but the reference design.

A GTX 770 will just feel like a downgrade/sidegrade from your R9 280X. At least the R9 290 will feel a bit better.

How does the price compare? The R9 290 is a better card for gaming, but the GTX 770 is better in power consumption, noise, and other non-important things.

Well a R9 290 is faster then a GTX 770 (R9 290 compares to a GTX 780) but the reference cooler lets it get up to 90 degrees at full load. For your other questions I'm not sure.

Well, the r9 290 is 399 bid, there are a few of them, but there is only 1 4gb 770 windforce on there. It is at 420 start bid but i think a buy now could be had for less, im not sure.

If you are talking USD you can find 4gb GTX 770 new for $350. Also a GTX 770 will give about the same performance of a R9 280x.

That's I'd choose a different cooler then XFX, unless you want their warranty. Also that GTX 770 is a 2gb model.

well I live in new zealand, so currency is in NZD, sorry i forgot to mention this. I Looked around at brand new cards, im looking at 560 for the tri x 290, and 600 for a 4gb 770 windforce. Id really like to go evga or atleast nvidia, so does anyone know if newegg ships to new zealand? or if i can buy off the australian newegg?

I'm not sure about the shipping. But the GTX 770 will not give a performance boost over your R9 280x, so only buy it for software or cooling reasons. A R9 290 seems like a better option since it is faster by a lot. If you want a performance boost and want to stay with Nvidia get a GTX 780 since it performs as fast as a R9 290, but it only has 3gb of Vram.

I looked it up and they do not ship to New Zealand (sorry). Also 3gb of Vram should be enough for your set up. A youtuber Jayztwosense runs 3 1080p monitors on SLI GTX 780s which only have 3gb of Vram. So my advice would be to buy a used EVGA GPU off ebay because EVGA has a transferable warranty that is simple to use. I am actually on my Nvidia PC with a GTX 670 FTW that I got off Ebay and it still has 1.3 years of warranty left.

Yeah i currently have 3gb and thats fine, if i could get a 3gb 770 i would lol. If i were to get another card it would be the r9 290 or the 770, and they both come in 4gb and 2/4gb configurations respectively, but im budget restricted, as im not aiming for the top of the line cards, so these are the cards i got to work with. Im not sure if i can afford to get them both brand new unless i can buy from newegg, but i cant so im stuck with what i can get my hands on, which is second hand stuff.
