Hi guys, I have some problems with my GPU, it´s overheating ALOT under load almost instantly even with the fan at max, but it´s fine on idle around 40c on a clean w7 (it is around 60c on idle on my other SO).
rig:
PSU - coolermaster silent pro 850w 80 plus
gpu- evga gtx 660 sc
cpu- I5-2310
ram- 8gb Kingston hyper running at 1333
hdd- 1tb ssd- 128gb
I cleaned everything, there is no more dust the fan is working, and changed the Thermal compound (Im using artic silver 5).

Im not sure anymore what can do this, Just look how fast the temps skyroket while opening the witcher 2(Im altabing before it crash at 98c) I used to play all my games with no problem, is something bad on my gpu or something else?.

Any help is apreciated :).

Wow, creepy how similar our systems are, but anyway. My GTX660 idles at 29-31C and low 60s under gaming load so definitely a problem and not a small one, but one thing I notice in both pics is that your fan speed doesn't seem to be going up hardly at all even when it gets so serious that it starts pulling voltage out. You might check your fan settings and if your fan profile is fine(try just forcing it to 100% then testing it) try reinstalling your drivers.

Lol, I mean witcher 2.

I actually have forced the fan to 74% (the max I can) and the result is the same, I reinstalled drivers, and used the last 3 revisions from nvidia, the same thing, will reapply the TIM tomorrow, to see (once again) if something went wrong by my part.

hey there, you are running a core i5 processor 2nd generation with TDP of 95W. and 2nd gen processors are bad know for heating issues and more amount of power consumption.
try changing your processor unit also it might be case of bottlenecking.

wat?

How about no. Mine is also a sandy bridge i5 and it's idling now at 38C and under gaming load stays in the low 50sC aircooled. Also, this is not related to the problem. Seriously, there are so many ban-worthy things I would like to say to this.

In 13thmonkey's condition the actual problem occurred is due to the miss combination for processor and the other components like his RAM with 1300mhz which consume higher power too, and i am very sure about this, i also used the core i5 2500K and now using the core i5 4670k and this processor is much much cooler and less power consuming and even i used my PC over weeks of continuous work, i hardly noticed any of the major heating issues.

Strange how no one asked this. How is the airflow in your case? When was the last time you cleaned your case and your GPU itself? I hadn't cleaned my old 5770 for months and the load temps eventually made it into the 90s, cleaning it put it back into the mid 70s. Please check your GPU, give us your case and how many fans they are. Also what is your ambient temperature?

Case flow is 120mm infront / 220mm at the side intake and a exaust 120mm at the back, I cleaned the PC and GPU before the test, ambient is 25c.

The cpu is always below 50c.

that about the turbo mode could do something, Im using right now 332.21, but the new one do the same thing (337.88), even older drivers could help?.

the preasure on the heatsink is good, there is no distance (cheking againts the light).

Yes, tried AS5 and Coolermaster coolermaster is worst, but both do this ramp on temps S:.

Your low idle temps pretty much ruled out case temps and thermal paste because both would have shown as high idle temps also. It has to be related to something that's able to control the fan speed increases or something that's able to adjust the clocks/voltage under load which leaves the drivers, card bios, and any type of adjustment software you have installed.

I'm pulling for straws here, but did you use a driver cleaner before you installed new drivers? Leftovers might be causing issues. Also, do you have multiple programs that can affect voltage/clocks/fan speed installed? If so you might try uninstalling all of them and only installing one or one program that can monitor temps and then test again. Have you flashed the bios previously for any reason?

Hopefully if you can't figure it out someone in morning will have some better suggestions for you.

Thanks for the sugestion, it was a clean w7 install so no left over or old drivers, everything was from zero.

also, just fixed it, used this things on the screws closer to the chip:

My temps went down IDLE: 33c and Load :60c, thank you all!.
