Strange Fluctuations in CPU temperatures and fan speed

Hi all,

I have a totaly new computer:

i7-4770, Fan: Artic Freezer i11, Motherboard: Gygabyte H87 HD3.

While just surfing the internet (typical news sites) I hear the CPU fan changing it's speed every few seconds (which is very annoying) , when I monitored the fan speed and the CPU temperatures (using HWiNFO64) I see lot of strange fluctuations in CPU temperature and fan speed.

See the following pictures (please enlarge them, and see the Min - Max values on the right side)

1. When nothing running on the background:

Is this normal ? What can be the problem ?

I think you might of over clocked you cpu and gpu by accident or something but if not check inside your case and see whats going on cause my old computer use to do that and when i checked inside one of the fans in there was broken.

No, I never overclocked my CPU (I think you can't do that with i7-4770, only with the i7-4770K...)

The fan is new, and looks totally OK.

since you pc is new go to the store and tell them theres something wrong with 100$ guranteed theyll give you a new one.

Couldn't it be a motherboard problem ?

its not the motherboard its probally your power supply or graphics card.

I can check the power supply voltages using the 'HWiNFO64' application, what should be an indication for a problem ?

And how can the graphics card have something to do with the CPU temperatures ?

Because its attached to your motherboard and so is everything else so when your graphics card starts spining to fast or gets to hot it can effect your motherboard (personal expirence)

Is 1590 - 1762 RPM a normal speed to this processor (i7-4770) and cooler fan (Artic Freezer i11) at Idle and at web surfing ?

It sound too Noisy for a computer that should be very very quiet...

idk honestly but if it is noisy then it is not normal check if your power is on preformance or balanced?

If your temps are fine you probably just need to adjust the PWM control for the CPU Fan. You can do this in the bios. Check what options you have, you may just need to change the target temperature for the threshold for max fan speed.

I would set it to a fairly constant medium speed from 30-55'c raising up speed as it nears 70'c.
