Hello my cousin is in need of some help upgrading is graphics card, I recently asked about mine here so I thought I would ask for him. He wants to get a gtx 760 for his rig. His spec are to follow.

PSU: Thermaltake TR2 TR-500 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

CASE: Cooler Master Elite 430 - Mid Tower Computer Case with Windowed Side Panel and All-Black Interior http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Motherbaord: 970A-G45 http://www.msi.com/product/mb/970AG45.html#hero-overvie...

RAM: 8GB

From the knowledge I have about this stuff I feel like he could run a GTX 760, but I am not to savvy at it. Thanks so much for the help! Just want to make sure everything is compatible for him before he buys.

A good 500 watt psu is fine for a build using the GTX 760 .

The TR2 is not a quality psu , but its still going to work

Get a 550w psu and get an r9 280, which outperforms the 760 and is almost same price.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... $ 239.99

Well the free watch dogs game comes with a 760 so that would save him $60 on that....but is the new PSU needed? for a 280 or 760? and the CPU wont bottleneck them will it? Thank you!!!

The cpu is certainly not great but will be able to run games on medium maybe without bottlenecking. what is your budget and what are the parts needed. I will suggest the optimal build. Bcoz you'll be regretting you bought that cpu in 6 months.

And you also get $ 150 worth free games that is 3 free games with any r9 280. And here is the games list from which your friend can choose three games. It has hitman absolution and sleeping dogs and dirt 3. It also has shogun 2 and sniper elite 2 which more than make up for watch dogs. Check this site if you want to see what games are there on offer: http://www.amd4u.com/radeonrewards/

If he already bought the mobo, buy atleast an fx 6300 with a custom cooler. The phenom is completely outdated and he will experience helluva lot of bottleneck and lag on watchdogs which is such a cpu- intensive game that it even lags on the i5 4670 stock. If he did not buy the mobo, why not buy an fm2 socket and get an athlon x4 750 k which still comes close to competing with the fx's and the i5's.

Just get an r9 270x with an fx 6300 and a cooler master 212 evo instead of a phenom/gtx 760 combo. This costs almost the same and will give you double the performance. Bcoz getting a high end gpu and pairing it with an outdated cpu makes no sense.

He only has the mobo and the psu and a phenom ( As far as I can make out).

If you already have the phenom get an r9 series gpu or atleast a radeon 7xxx series gpu bcoz the mantle api provides a free boost when paired with a low end cpu like that phenom.

Hey I'm his cousin,

i appreciate everyone helping, i would've made this but i don't really know much about the actual parts etc, what parts he posted is indeed what i currently have. but if i was to get the R9 270x & the FX-6300 as upgrades like you said do you think that it would be good with my current psu/mobo? I'm just not sure about that card because of the size compared to my case though, as my current card is rather small and I'm really not sure if it could fit the 10" kinda cards.. i had this in mind for the gtx 760 because of the size http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... anyone happen to know of a smaller version like that, or do you think that that version of the 760 would be more compatible with my case, than the R9 270x? just trying to do this the best way i can

I really appreciate the help, I've wanted to upgrade for a while now but it's tricky for me :-)
