Is there any software that can distinguish between physical and logical bad sectors

Since you are having problems with a drive anyhow, why don't you just backup the data and do a long format on the drive? If they are logical bad sectors, a full format will correct it. If they are physical bad sectors, a long format will mark those blocks as bad.
If this is for a client, you may want to replace the drive anyhow just to give everyone peace of mind.
