I just bought a new Processor the "AMD-FX-9590" (eight cores), somehow, since I bought it, my pc started to drop fps in literally any game from like a stable 80 fps to 10-16fps for like 10 seconds or less. I just have no clue how to fix this, i've searched around alot, but i'm just hopeless at the moment, I tried reinstalling drivers, I checked temperatures, they are all fine.. I literally have no clue anymore, I hope you can help me with this.

Specs: CPU: AMD-FX-9590 "8-cores 4.7 GHZ"
GPU: NVIDIA Geforce GTX660
Ram: 8GB
Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 R2.0

Thank you already for helping with the solution.

UPDATE: I got a 64 bit system, (Windows 7 Professional)

Here is the list of supported CPUs for your motherboard:

http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/list.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&s=24&m=M5A97%20LE%20R2.0&os=8&hashedid=n/a

As far as you can see, FX 9590 is not supported. And it is not supported for one reason only - because it draws too much power, and this motherboard cannot handle it. This CPU has a TDP of a whopping 220W, almost twice as much as the FX 8350.

I suggest you to stop using the computer immediately, because you are currently in risk of frying your board, your CPU or both.

You then have 2 choices:

a) install a supported CPU, such as FX 8350, or
b) use a motherboard that supports FX 9590. Search the web and you will find many of those.

Thank you for the fast response, I will probably need to get a new motherboard as soon as possible, also, is a 500 Watt Power supply enough or do I need a new one?

Well, it's still weird in my eyes, i bought the motherboard with the processor and it said my motherboard was competible with my processor, it read this on mycom btw, that is also where i bought it.

Not too weird, unfortunately, seen this stuff too many times. The problem here is that the CPU mechanically fits in the socket, but that does not mean that it SHOULD be installed. Official CPU support clearly does not list it. And for a good reason. They probably just copy/pasted all CPUs that fit into AM3+ socket to their site without checking first.
