Hi guys.

Hopefully someone here can help me.

So i am in Indonesia. I want to use VPN mainly to play an online game "ArcheAge" which server will be in USA. I heard that i can reduce latency or ping if i use VPN service.

What kind of VPN provider should i choose? If I in Indonesia and want to connect an online game in USA server?

I have some list like:
- expressvpn
- ipvanish
- VyprVPN

a best review score is for expressvpn? But i heard that in Indonesia to USA then i should choose VyprVPN?

They said VyprVPN use no third parties, so it is best for small ping or latency. That looks good for game. Also vyprvpn have a servers in Indonesia. But i want to connect to USA?

what kind of VPN provider should i am looking for exactly?

Any opinion or suggestion?

Many thanks.

Yeah. Without a VPN, the signal goes from you to the game server, then back. With a VPN, it goes from you to the VPN, sits around a bit in the server, then out to the game server, then back to the VPN and to you.

I would expect the Japan-US ping to be somewhere around 200ms, at a very rough guess. Depends what coast of the US.
Is your problem archeage is not allowed to be played in indonesia or you want to play on USA based servers and they require you to play on servers in asia?

You can't really fix the latency issue. The vast majority is related to distance. Some times a ISP will take a non optimum path. But it also depends where in the USA it is. The only time a VPN would help reduce the latency is if the path to the site that runs the VPN plus the distance from their to the real game server is shorter than the path directly to the game server. You can if you really try figure this out. It is all related to how different ISP connect together.

But the difference would have to be pretty substantial. Your ISP would have to do something silly like run the game traffic west using the fiber path that goes toward india and run the VPN traffic east that goes toward japan and across.

There is also quite a bit of overhead on vpn so that adds latency all by itself.

Pretty much you use VPN to avoid region restrictions not to improve performance.

i want to play on USA based server. My ping to USA 280 - 350 ms (speedtest).

I can check some VPN list servers then found out that if i choose Japan VPN then ping only 180 ms. If i choose US servers it still have 350 ms latency. So even if i choose Japan VPN it still need to go to USA right? then it means no use at all?

Thanks
