No need to buy a new graphics right now, see how you get on with your current card just don't expect to running everything at max settings. You can save up some more money and upgrade your card in a few months time.

Why suggest a xeon? For gaming, you want an i5.

The Xeon is the same as an i5 but with hyperthreading and without an integrated GPU. The Xeon is a perfect choice for someone who does not plan to overclock (since there is no unlocked Xeon).

The xeon processors aren't built for gaming, they're made for enterprise applications. Then, also considering that if the rig is made specifically for gaming, the cost to benefit....which isn't. The review here lists a $2199 E5 xeon, vs a few of the i7 series. As you can see, the xeon clearly doesn't perform as well as it's MUCH cheaper counterparts.

No...I'd never suggest using a xeon in a gaming machine. Enthusiasts looking for high scores in synthetic benchmarks, or server applications....or, to flex your e-peen....maybe, but gaming? Not when there are better options, for far cheaper.

And if the E5, the high end xeon can't keep up with the i7 for gaming, how well do you think a $200 E3 will fare against an i5? My guess is, it won't..... Why? No clue..as you say, they're essentially the same thing. BUT...they don't. I would never use a xeon for a gaming machine. Never.

Do you have any data for the E3 1230 not performing the same or better than the i5 4570? The Xeon E3 1230 is basically the same Haswell chip with hyperthreading, without an iGPU, and not overclockable but also has an 8mb cache over the i5's 6mb cache. If you are looking to overclock then obviously don't get a Xeon, but they are perfectly good for non-OC builds.

That said, if you don't have any programs or games that do not use the hyperthreading (more than 4 cores) then it is a waste of money to get it over a i5 4570/4590/4670/4690 etc.

lol, already posted that I was wrong.... I still wouldn't do it, nor would I suggest it. I overclock, and will always suggest that others do to. It is absolutely the easiest way to get extra performance out of your machine without upgrading. And with the Intel chips, it's so ridiculously easy, it's pretty dumb not to. MOST of them are capable of running a high clock on lower volts....meaning, longer life, and lower temps at a higher clock, than stock clocks. I see far more benefit in in i series, than the xeons.
