My 2 year old computer that i built on a budget for gaming, yet not too expensive (550 bucks with windows) has a Radeon HD 5570 built by sapphire.

I play many games with no issues, 3d rendering in games like minecraft might take a little bit longer than id like (2 seconds) but once it's rendered gaming is smooth. Civ5 takes a few seconds to render the tiles and tile data. NFS Carbon runs super smooth with no issues. NFS rivals runs with a few frame drops (with lowest graphics setting AND using CCC i took tessellation level down to x2).

So i did some looking around for a gpu i could get for cheap that could improve my gaming performance.

On newegg i found a great deal offering a Radeon R7 250 for 70$ with a 10 dollar mail in rebate. So 60 bucks for a new card. link
From what i understand its simply has more memory and a greater memory bus.
1. Is it worth the money? (i assume yes)
2. Will it increase gaming performance alot and last me the next few years with games getting into the super high pc requirements spectrum?

Thanks for the help.

PC Specs:
AMD Phenom 2 x4 840 3.2GHz
GA-870a-USB3 motherboard
4gb ram (one card)
ATI Sapphire Radeon HD 5570

The truth is the R7 240 and 250 is junk.Get atleast an R7 260X minumum. The 260X will last for a while but for newer games,I suggest you replace parts in your setup.

You want DDR5 on any video card you get today, and maybe 2GB depending on your resolution.

The R7 250 is an entry level card and if you can settle for low settings and low resolutions (depends on the games you play) then the performance is actually not that bad. I would consider it the bare minimum to get you playing today's games

It should give you a considerable leap in performance when compared to your old card. I doubt it would be able to last you a few years though

And lastly, don't get the R7 240, it is crap

We really, really need to know the OP's resolution before we can make predictions about what he "needs" or how well specific cards will run.

For your budget, the R7 250 seems like the best card and if it offers a significant performance boost over your current card, which it does, then I think it's worth the upgrade

thank you scremin34egl
ive always went for entry level cards which still offered good performance such as the rhd 5570 that i currently have. and i know its not as good of a card as others but for my budget i assume it will be good enough that i wont have to do extensive tweaking to get games running.

i might put my radeon hd 5570 on my old gaming computer which still can play very good games, but definitely nothing new. it has a geforce 6800gs
