Hi, i own a 770gtx with 2gb vram and i wanted to know if ill have problems with future games at 1080p and max settings.

I'v checked and found that watch dogs runs great on my gpu but it needs the 4gb vram version... Do you think that this will happen in future games too? I know there are a lot of provlems with watch dogs and vram but still it raises questions and my PC is not even a year old..

Thanks in advance!

Watch Dogs doesn't "need" that much; it uses that much (3.6 GB on my system) if you are running the game with Ultra textures. And it still runs like garbage anyway. It's a very mediocre game anyway, its very skippable.

I think VRAM use may, on average, go up over the next few years but probably not much faster than it always has as newer games are developed. Watch Dogs notwithstanding, 2 GB is probably going to be fine.

You prob gonna have to wait until the future to answer that question. But it is possible with games racking up 40-50GB, more vram will possibly be needed.

The 4 GB version will be more future proof, so go for it.

Hard drive space has nothing to do with VRAM usage.

No. Games are just now starting to even use ~4 GB. That's an easy upgrade later on if you actually found you needed it.

How many gamers are going to be able to game if suddenly 4 GB cards are needed? Video game publishers will be in big, big trouble if they did that, even within several years' time.

He was asking about ultra which is different then compressed textures. Ultimately I wouldn't sweat it too much even if you have to play some games on high settings. You got a good card, enjoy it for a few more years. Wait for the next gen cards to become pretty cheap then upgrade to either Nvidia or AMD whichever has better performance per dollar.

I meant to ask if my ram will "help" my vram if the problem with watch happen in other games

I run the most demanding games like crysis 3 and metro last light on mostly max settings. Crysis 3 runs on very high with txaa 2x on 1080p. Can vram effect my games so much that i will have a major performance decrease in future games like arkham knight and ac unity?

It won't be a very noticable difference. Wolfenstein is a game that needs 3gb on ultra and the difference between ultra and high is practically nothing. Most games will prob run fine on 2GB VRAM it's the games that are 40+ GB you might have to worry about but even then the difference will be minimal.

Ok finally made watch dogs sort of smooth with textures on medium. Thanks to everybody. I just hope my card will still run games on high - ultra in the next two years

If ill have more ram then what is actually needed for games like 16gb will that boost my vram? Or are these two different things

Regular Ram is only used for integrated graphics, Discrete graphics have their own VRAM.
