About a week ago I started getting page not found on some of the sites I visit often.

I hadn't changed any settings, so I called my ISP and found it was an issue with router.

Please can someone help me fix the problem before I buy a newer router only to find later I could've got the present one working again.

You need to provide more information. What exactly did your ISP tell you was wrong with your router and how did they come to that conclusion?

I am not sure what the isp (TWC) did, they remote access and went through settings and asked me to connect directly to the modem bypassing the router and everything started working. They didn't says if they know the problem

run ipconfig/all from a command line and post your results. make sure you do this while connected to your router.

try to flush your dns: ipconfig /flushdns

or even possibly statically set your DNS to your ISP DNS server rather than have your router proxy the DNS.

I flushed dns and set router's dns setting use statict 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.3

no luck

I'll try google's which is 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 next

what public IP address do you get when connected to your ISP directly? does this IP address differ from the address that your router gets from your ISP?

EDIT - don't supply your public IP on this forum. just let me know if the two differ.

nslookup shows the ip as 195.211.221.116. you may want to verify that using your own DNS. i'd suggest starting a continuous ping to that IP (ping 195.211.221.116 -t) and then attempt browsing to the site. if the site fails to load a web page, check out your pings and see what is happening.

i just realized that that ip doesn't respond to pings. i tried it from my connection at my home. but according to your tracerroute, your traffic is making it past your router and onto the internet. was the site working at the time of this traceroute?

Yes, works fine without the router, but I figured you meant for me run it with outer in

then my guess is it may have a failure. don't quote me on that. i'm just out of options.

you could try changing your LAN's ip addressing scheme on the router. do that if you're comfortable.

what ip are you pulling from your router via dhcp? 192.168.x.x? or 10.x.x.x?

so use the 10.0.0.0/24 network. this means this:
router's LAN IP: 10.0.0.1
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway 10.0.0.1
DHCP range handed out by the router: 10.0.0.10 - 10.0.0.254 (i always like to reserve the first several IP's for static use later on. you don't need to do that and could just use .2 - .254)

all of the above would be configured on the LAN section of your router's config screen. once you have the config saved, you'll lose connection to your router because your computer will have an IP of 192.168.x.x, which as you know, isn't on the same network as 10.0.0.0. so you'll need to perform one of two options:

option 1: restart your computer. it'll ask for a new IP when it boots up, and will be given 10.0.0.10 from your router.

option 2: run ipconfig/release followed by ipconfig/renew in a CMD window. this sill force your TCP/IP stack to drop it's IP address and ask for a new one. you should receive 10.0.0.10 when the renew completes.

once you have done one of the options, try your connection and post the results.

good luck.

if you make a mistake and lose connectivty to everything, just reset your router and it'll go back to it's default (192.168.x.x) config (don't forget to release renew your ip again if you have to do this).

additionally, to make sure you've correctly configured your router, after performing all of the above steps, run ipconfig to make sure you have the addresses stated above. then try to ping your gateway of 10.0.0.1. if you get timeouts, something is wrong. if you get replies, your config is good. also, you should be able to access the router's config screen using the new ip of 10.0.0.1.
