Hi there,

My Galaxy gtx780 HOF card stopped working yesterday.

Basically the computer will not start at all if the card is connected to the PSU.When I disconnect the 780 from the PSU the PC loads up normal. What would that specific issue usually indicate? There is no visible damage/burnt parts on the PCB at all.

I tested the PSU and put another GPU in the mobo, and that worked fine.
I also tested the 780 on another mobo and another PSU and again the PC would not power up at all when the GPU was connected to the PSU.

Hoping the card is not totally fried and that it's an issue related to the power connector on the gpu's pcb.

Could it be that both PSUs you tested are underpowered for a 780? If you are unsure, post the make/model numbers of the PSUs.

What was the other GPU you tried? If the GTX780 is overloading your PSU, but the other card is not, you would get those symptoms. What brand and model (not just wattage) is the PSU?

The PSU is a Corsair 600W TX and it's been working fine with the GPU for the past 6 months.

The other GPU I tried was the gtx650.
The other PSU I tested it on was a 700W Apevia.

The Apevia is fecal, do NOT plug it in to such high-powered hardware, as you risk blowing it up, possibly killing attached parts.
As to the Corsair, while it is a decent model (not like the CX), it is possible that capacitor aging has reduced its capacity, or it could simply have a problem.

So I tested my gtx780 again, this time on a brand new 750W HX from Corsair and unfortunately it was the same result, when connected to the PSU the PC won't boot whatsoever. If I leave it in the PCIE slot and not connect it to the PSU the GPU's aesthetic lights work but device not recognized/seen by windows or bios.

So I am left with this question, What do you think, specifically, the problem with the gpu could be with the symptom of the PC not booting at all when GPU connected to PSU? Any chance in hell that it could be a relatively simple fix? Will a trip to the reflow oven maybe help?

If merely connecting the graphics card causes your PC to not boot, it may have a VRM fried shorted on it. Are there any burn marks on the graphics card? You may need to return it for warranty replacement.

No visible damage to the pcb or burn marks/parts whatsoever that I can see.

My GTX 780 HOF also died after six months of multi-montior gaming. Go GalaxyTech!
I have a rosewill 1000w PSU with more than enough power and it seems to be working fine with my older HD 7850. Just like nickenix, my 780 HOF is not seen/recognized in the device manager. When I get home today, I will strip it apart and reflow it as a final resort. If I get no dice, I plan on purchasing a 6gb Superclocked. Good luck to you nick!

I think you have made reasonable efforts to test your card. Considering that baking it will almost certainly void your warranty, I would suggest you RMA the card. Describe your symptoms and your tests, and they ought to replace it.

I have no warranty on the card. I have had it for six months. GalaxyTech is also having issues with shipping in the US at the moment. There is a waiting list to purchase one. You can find it here:

I doubt they will be able to send me another free of cost.
Conventional oven it is!

The reflow worked! But not for long =\ The card was alive for about 20 seconds. I was able to see my motherboard splash screen. A few seconds afterward, my monitor lost display signal. No dice on any other monitors. Im going to leave the card in my system for the next few days along side my 7850. If it doesnt magically appear, Ill give it another reflow.
Atleast we can now rule out a broken PSU!
