Hello Everyone,
I have had my 7870 hawk for around a year now and am starting to really want to overclock this thing higher than I currently can. I am running at 1250 on the core, and 1450 memory. The Problems I have arise when I try to push it more than these. Both I am using 1.35v on the core, and 1.7 on the memory on air. Whenever I oc, I always have fans on high and usually run 59c on core, 45 c on memory, 58 c on vrms.
Whenever I try to overclock it past this, I will get some bsods, which don't make sense because I noticed that people were able to achieve1400 on air on the core, much less than what I am currently achieving. I suspect this to be the psu being the cause, but check my specs and someone tell me:
Modded Dell XPS 8500
Core i7-3770
Radeon 7870 Hawk
4 DiMM 16gb Ram
40 Gb Sata SSD
2x 1tb HDD in raid 0
PCIE x 1 Sata expansion Card
80 mm case fan
120 mm case fan
460 Watt Dell PSU with dedicated 12v rail.
The PSU calculators said that they recommended a 450 watt psu when I put in the radeon 7950 (to simulate a higher power consumption due to overclocking) so I don't understand how this could be a result of my power supply, but that is the only component left that I can believe is the cause of the crashes and instability when I have a higher overclock at such high voltages.
