Hey there,

I'm in the process of upgrading my pc - a Dell Optiplex 790 with a mini-tower form.

I have bought a new graphics card (GTX 750Ti) and a new PSU (750W), but I've been told I'll need to upgrade my motherboard too.

So I have 3 questions:

1. Will I really have to replace the motherboard?

2. How do I choose which one is compatible with my new graphics card and PSU?
(I know I'll have to choose one that will take the 16Gb RAM I have on the old board)

3. Can I transfer my existing processor (Intel i7 2600 3.4 GHz) into the new board? (I know the sockets will both have to be 1155)

Thanks for any advice!

Solution
your motherboard in the dell is a new motherboard as long as the bios on the motherboard is updated the new gpu should work fine. any of the newer x68-x97 chipset should work. if you replace the motherboard your dell restore disk wont work. it looks for the dell bios and if it cant find it wont install.

Ah, good news! I was warned that the higher PSU would fry everything as it's 3 times the original wattage.

Thanks for the help!
