I built this computer over a yr ago and just now installed SATA 3 driver. My motherboard and SSD with Win 7 on it are both rated for SATA 3.

I just installed SATA 3 driver couple of days ago and would like to know if I should switch my SSD from the SATA 2 connector on motherboard to the SATA 3 connector?

In other words is there a big risk of frying something or not being able to boot back up if I do it.

Thanks,
hoyt

If you hook it up to the SATA 2 connector on the motherboard, it'll run at SATA 2 speeds (3gb/s). If you hook it up to the SATA 3 connector, it'll run at SATA 3 speeds (6gb/s).

Now if you hook a SATA 2 device up to a SATA 3 connector, it won't work.

Also, the actual cable, there is no difference between SATA 2 and 3 cables.

You will probably want to make sure ACHI is enabled to maximize your SATA 3 performance. I have Windows 7 also, and had to do a quick fix to enable it. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976. That link has a little icon for Microsoft Fix It - click there, follow the quick instructions, and you're able to go into BIOS and enable ACHI.

OK, thanks ThatVietGuy and Calvin..the SSD is Kingston SSDNow V200 Series SV200S37A/128G 2.5" 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-alone drive). I'm sure ACHI is enabled..was in BIOS yesterday..but will check again and check out your link.
